I was interested in joining the Summer Shred Challenge led by Cheryl because I wanted to see how this program would change my body. I was never overweight growing up but I always dreamt of having a six pack (or having a visible one at least). This challenge was offered right before summer so I thought 'perfect timing!' and joined in a heartbeat. My goal was to lose those last 5 to 10 pounds of stubborn weight and achieve a toned physique.
I definitely got very close to that goal by the end of the 5-week program. I was so proud of myself when I heard that I won the challenge! I lost nearly 10 pounds and my body fat percentage dropped by 3%. After the challenge was over, I was motivated to maintain my progress and continue having those healthy habits in my daily routine. Cheryl kept me very motivated throughout the program and even afterward. She was always available to help answer any nutrition-related questions I had and get me back on track when needed. Almost a year later, I have managed to maintain my progress and have vastly improved my performance at the gym!
Changing your body and mindset definitely takes longer than 5 weeks to achieve but the program itself definitely gave me a great foundation to start with.
I'll be honest, it took a great deal of discipline to meal prep during the summertime and all the social activities that entailed, but planning ahead made it easy to get back on track. The biggest eye-opener for me was when I started to assess my performance during the wods and the lifts and realized that I was still maintaining my endurance and getting stronger at the same time. It has been a while since I hit a PR in my wods or lifts since my back injury in Sep 2016, and it motivated me to stay disciplined and focused during these 3 months.
For many years, food would give me a great deal of anxiety and frustration with my history of eating disorder, binge eating, obsessing with calories and drowning myself in guilt whenever I cheated or ate poorly. After these 3 months with Cheryl, it gave me a new insight into food and to use it as my fuel for performance. Eating clean and timing my meals has eased my IBS symptoms and has kept my energy level high throughout the day.
I am incredibly thankful for Cheryl's help and expertise during the 3 months, and I'm hoping to use the knowledge that I gained and continue to use it moving forward.
Most know my story of being a fat overweight unhappy girl turned crossfitter. I lost a bunch of weight and gained a love for the sport! However, I seemed to be in hitting a plateau. Weight wasn't changing, ambition, motivation still there in the gym but nutrition started lacking a bit.
I decided I needed some help! In comes Cheryl De Guzman, we met talked about where I was at currently, where I wanted to be and how we were going to achieve it.....and that was the best decision I have ever made next to starting Crossfit. She is incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and focused when it comes to helping others achieve their goals. I would have been so lost in this process without her! We made a 3 month customized for me and my goals.
I have always been so focused on the number on the scale.....this 3-month process has totally opened my eyes. I have learned that number doesn't mean shit! What matters is fueling your body so It can perform at its greatest potential.
Yes, the vanity sets in as you see muscles more defined and fat disappear but what is far more inspiring is how strong you feel when you hit that snatch PR or heavy back squat! Focus on feeding your body properly and the results will come. Not only aesthetically but in your performance as well!
I've loved this process and will continue to take the knowledge I have gained to continue to progress.
